From the President

  • PRESIDENT: Christopher Edwards
  • Elected: September 2015.
  • Section: Harness Racing.

I have been a member of the Dubbo Show Society for many years.  Initially I was an assistant to Mr Jack Shanks (former President of the Dubbo Show) in conducting the Harness Racing or as is better known the Trotting events at the annual show.        After Jack retired I became chief steward of the section.

One of the advances in the section has been the replacement of show racing with registered race meetings covered Australia wide on Sky Channel. With the conducting of a premier Carnival of Cups race meeting at the Dubbo Show both the Show Society and the Dubbo Harness Club get very favourable coverage to a very wide audience.

I have a wide interest in the success of all sections of the show and believe that the annual Dubbo Show is one of the most important events in the City.

I will strive to help all sections to present to the public of Dubbo and the wider region an event where all people find something to interest them, and to enjoy and hopefully looking forward to returning next year. It is a privilege to be part of such a hard working and committed group of people that virtually work for 12 months to put the show on.

Secretary Sue Hood, Treasurer Josie Anderson, the Finance and Executive committee and all the dedicated section heads and their many helpers are the real drivers of the success of the show and I consider it a great honour to be the President of this Society.

The Society is very aware that times change, and to entertain and interest the general public we have to change some of what we do and how we do it. While we have an absolute commitment to the traditional rural and equine based sections we need to present some attractions that will draw large numbers of people through the gates each year to finance our traditional exhibitions and sections.

The Committee is always looking for new entertaining and different attractions to present to our City and region.
